The summer following graduation, Ron felt called into full-time Christian ministry. He attended Sam Houston State, graduating in 1970, and then received his Master's degree in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1972. During his formal education he served in several churches as a youth minister (poor kids). Ron also worked at Buckner Baptist Benevolences until 1975 as an Administrator-in-Training, receiving his Nursing Home Administrator's License in 1974.
Ron was led back into the local church in 1975, and has served churches in Illinois, Mississippi, and Texas. His position has been as Minister of Education and Administration for the last 15 years. He currently serves at Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown, Texas. He met my wife (Linda Mullen, Dayton Texas) in college, and they were married in 1971. The Surbers have two children. Matt (1973) is a youth minister at Prestonwood Baptist in Plano, Texas, and married to the former Becky Hatch of Lake Jackson. Leah (1976) is a Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, stationed out of San Diego on the USS Boxer. They are still waiting on grandchildren. "Linda and I have shared a wonderful life. The rough times are far out-shadowed by the good times, and they feel blessed by the Lord. "We are looking forward to the 2001 Kimball Reunion." His major hobby is umpiring baseball for the past 22 years. "No, I don't do little league anymore, just High School and College. Only a crazy person does little league." |
