After my days at Kimball I worked a couple of jobs and also attempted college for a couple of semesters. I met the "love of my life" in 1966. After a long engagement we married in October 1970 when he returned from Viet Nam and three years in the Army.
I have three wonderful children, two sons and one daughter. I was very fortunate to be able to stay at home for 17 years. At that point I returned to an entry level job at a small manufacturing job in 1987. I left that job in Dec. 2016. I retired after 30 years with the job title as General Manager. I lost my husband in March of 2017 to cancer after 46+ years of marriage. My biggest disappointment is missing our retirement years together. The last two years I have been trying to understand my "new normal". My two grandchildren ages 10 and 2 help me in searching for that "new normal". I have a strange hobby for a land-locked person. In 1976, I became totally interested in Lighthouses. Besides collecting them almost every trip we ever made involved checking out lighthouses for me and baseball parks for my husband. We've seen a lot more lighthouses than ballparks though. The history alone was amazing for us both. We've been to the east coast from Maine to Florida, west coast from California to Washington and a couple of the Great Lakes. I must say I am a fanatic and am still searching because there are so many more to see. My current life is a big adjustment. Continuing without my soulmate is pretty hard and some days impossible. But my hope and strength comes from above and it is "Well with my Soul". Plus, as "Kimball Knight's" we still have our full armor to get through any troubles that come our way! Oh, by the way, I have a Knight standing by front door. It was a birthday gift from my husband. He has been standing guard almost 40 years now! Shirley Wright Lewallyn |
