Colonel Michael W. Parker was born in Dallas, Texas, on 18 September 1948. Upon graduation from the University of Texas at Arlington, 21 December 1971, he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and was commissioned a second lieutenant of Infantry. He holds a Master of Science in Logistics Management and Master of Business Administration degrees from the Florida Institute of Technology. His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Armor Advanced Course, the Logistics Executive Development Course, Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College.

Colonel Parker served for 30 years to include assignments in:

  • 82d Airborne Division
  • 4th Infantry Division
  • 8th Infantry Division
  • 2d Armored Division
  • 1st Cavalry Division (Desert Storm)
  • Army Logistics Management College
  • 1st Army
  • 8th Army
  • III Corps, Fort Hood
  • Colonel Parker commanded the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, a combined arms battalion, during Desert Shield/Desert Storm where the unit earned the Valorous Unit Citation. Among his awards and decorations are the Legion of Merit with two Oak-Leaf-Clusters; Bronze Star; Meritorious Service Medal with Silver-Oak-Leaf-Cluster; the Army Commendation Medal with Oak-Leaf-Cluster; and earned the Combat and Expert Infantryman Badges; Senior Parachutist Badge; and Ranger Tab.

    Since retirement, Mike has continued to support the Army as a contractor with a focus on Battle Command and supporting command and control systems. His recent positions have carried him to Korea and Baghdad. His current position includes preparing the 1st Cavalry Division to deploy to Iraq from Fort Hood.

    Mike lives in Central Texas about 10 miles south of Killeen and Fort Hood, on 16 acres overlooking the Lampasas River. He is married to the former Judy Lynn Belknap, who met while working at Six Flags. They have three children: John, Bryan, and Katy. John and his wife Liz gave them two beautiful grandkids: Avery and Jake.
