After graduation Judy Kay Hawthorne became a teacher and has actively pursued that career for the past 32 years, including 27 years in DISD. For the past 20 years she has taught Prenatal and Parenting Skills to pregnant and parenting teens at Maya Angelou High School, formerly Health Special. She is also the Political Action Vice-President of Alliance of Dallas Educators, an 8600 member employee union in DISD which is the elected Coordinating Teacher and Support Employee Organization.
Judy is active in her church, Northpark Presbyterian, having served as an Elder, and is currently serving as a Deacon. She is active in various mission projects there. "I like to garden and travel. I've been blessed to get to go on several cruises, including one where we flew to London on the Concorde, took the EuroStar train to spend a day in Paris, spent time in London and then took the Orient Express to Southampton for a TransAtlantic crossing on the QE2. We managed to experience 4 legendary forms of travel on that trip. We also took a Mediterranean cruise several years ago which was terrific." "I am a true Longhorn through and through (thus my email address) and follow UT Sports, but especially football. I attend games whenever possible and saw the two most historic games UT has played in the OSU and Rose Bowl games!" Judy's married name is Bryant (giving us two Judy Bryants in our class.) Judy's life also includes other very special activities. "One of the most exciting things in my life recently has been becoming a grandmother. Madeleine Bryant is 2 years old and lives in Dallas with parents Alan and Jessica, so I've had "Granny camp" a bunch this past summer. It's great fun to play with Maddie and enjoy seeing her grow up."
